In his song, "First Times", Ed Sheeran sings about living his long-standing dream of performing at Wembley Stadium. As a young artist, that was supposed to be his crowning moment, but when he finally stood on that stage, in front of 80,000+ fans, singing with his guitar, he realized that it wasn't the life-changing moment he thought it would be. The exact euphoria he expected to feel was nowhere to be found, and it left him questioning if he had missed something.
In his own words, Ed sings;

I thought it’d feel different playing Wembley.
Eighty thousand singing with me.
It’s what I’ve been chasing, this is the dream!

And did it feel any different from an ordinary show in a club?
~Not really!
I am moved by his confession because it is in a way an echo of our own experiences. Although the song basically revolves around the idea of appreciating little things in life, still many of us have had our versions of Ed’s Wembley, a long-awaited desire that consumes our thoughts and actions. That one thing we've always dreamt of having and worked tirelessly towards, thinking it will change our lives forever.
But when we finally get it…….
YES, we are HAPPY and PROUD but UNQUENCHED! And we begin to wonder what went wrong.

Hear me this day, there is definitely nothing mistaken as it is simply human nature, helping us to keep doing other things in life even after accomplishing what we thought we’d die for. Allow me to allegedly say that we're wired to enjoy the journey of achieving our goals and the thrill of the chase more than the actual outcome.

So, it's not that we are being ungrateful or that our desires were misplaced; it's just that we are happiest when dreaming. When our dreams become a reality, we lose the excitement, and our minds start searching for new ones. It is this never-ending cycle of dreaming and achieving that makes life worth living.

I am writing this to encourage anyone out there. Please don’t stop chasing your Wembleys because some past Wembleys did not feel so Wembleyish when you got a hold of them. The truth is, no one’s Wembleys ever felt that Wembleyish either, even Ed’s!

Whenever you feel disheartened after scoring the goal you've always wanted, just take it as a sign that it is the right time to start dreaming again. After all, who knows what new Wembleys you'll discover along the way?!

A timeless reminder it is,
Life is having something to look forward to!
